Basic Assumption of New Age Philosophy Contrasted with Biblical Christianity

A number of Christian authors have summarized the basic assumptions of the NAM worldview, 25. In a statement prepared by Evangelical Ministries to New Religions, a list of basic assumptions of New Age Philosophy is given, and they are contrasted with Biblical Christianity. The statement is reproduced below, with appropriate Scripture references added in parentheses – (reference book used for this project is Cults and the Occult by Edmond C, Gruss – a book well worth reading)

1: New Age: God is an impersonal undifferentiated Oneness, not separate from creation

Bible: God is a personal, transcendent Creator; fundamentally distinct from creation (Gen. 2:2; Deut. 4:39; Ps. 11:4; 103:19; John 4:24; Acts 7:48-50; 14:15-17; 17:24-25)

2: New Age: Humanity, like all creation, is an extension of this divine Oneness, shared its essential being. Humanity is divine

Bible: Although created in God’s image, humanity is not an extension of God and does not share God’s being. Humanity is not God (Isa. 45:18; 55:8-9; 46:9; Jer.17:5-10; Rev. 4.11)

3: New Age: Humanity’s crises stem from a fragmented vision blind to this essential Oneness and to humanity’s innate divinity.

Bible: Humanity’s crises stem from alienation from God brought about by sinful rebellion. (Isa. 53; John 3:19-20; Romans 3:10-18; 5:12-21)

4: New Age: Humanity needs to be transformed – each individual actualizing his/her divine nature, becoming aware of the One.

Bible: Humanity needs to be transformed through the renewing work of the Holy Spirit, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ(Yeshua) the Messiah, which reconciles us to God.

5: New Age: Transformation is brought about through a myriad of techniques which can be applied to mind, body and spirit.
Examples of such techniques, used variously by New Age groups, include meditation, yoga, chanting, creative visualization, hypnosis, and submission to a guru

Bible: Humanity does not acquire God’s forgiveness through the application of any technique. It is a free gift to be humbly received by faith. (John 3:14-16; John 5:24; Romans 3:21-30, 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9; Phil. 3;7-9; Titus 3;4-7)

6; New Age: Personal transformation is the basis for global transformation and the spiritual evolution of humankind, characterized by mass enlightenment and social unity. This unity will transcend the individual and social self-centeredness which has created the present crises in environment, world hunger, international relations, racism, etc.

Bible: Although personal rebirth through Jesus Christ will result in some transformation of social institutions, permanent global transformation will not occur until after the physical return of Jesus Christ in Judgment (Isa. 65:17; Acts 3:20-21; Romans 8@18-22; 1 Corinthians 15:22-28; Titus 2: 11-13; Revelation 21:1-8)

I have found this reference book extremely useful

Other useful books for your to browse and get some information of how to share with your friends who are involved in things which are of New Age origin, yet not everything they are doing is so new age, many of the practices are ancient rituals.

The Counterfeit Christ of the New Age Movement

Running Against the Wind: The Transformation of a New Age Medium and His Warning to the Church

Because I do tend to move among different circles in my life I have decided to become better informed about the very philosophy of New Ager's, afteral, they are all around us.  For me, it is important that I understand what the real differences are as when we are discussing things, on the surface it may appear that we are on the same page, but it is only when you dig a bit deeper do you realise just how far apart and away from the Truth it really is.  I walk regularly with one and although we seem to agree, yet there is such a wide difference and it is clear to see how the bible says that light and dark cannot walk together, the sad part about it is that they do genuinely believe that they are walking in the light.

I read Running against the Wind and was absolutely stunned at just how it affects peoples mind, my own husband was involved briefly without even realizing it ant was drawn into the different fragments of the Transformation process - yet in the end it did not save him nor protect him.  As I read the book and discovered some incredible things that were so like what happened to my husband and what led up to his death.  It is dangerous and therefore I believe people should be warned against it.  Do yourself a favour and get acquainted with the information I have given to you as it could help you help others save their lives.

New Creation In the Messiah

2 Corinthians 3 : 16-18
16: But “says the Torah, “whenever someone turns to God (Adonai) the veil is taken away
17: Now, “Adonai” in this text means the Spirit, and where the Spirit of Adonai is, there is freedom.
18: So all of us, with faces veiled, see as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, and we are being changed into his very image, from one degree of glory to the next, by Adonai the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 4 : 6
6: For it is the God who once said “Let light shine out of the darkness, who has made his light shine in our hearts, the light of the knowledge of God’s glory shinning in the face of the Messiah Yeshua/Jesus

2 Corinthians 5: 14 – 21
14: For the Messiah’s love has a hold of us, because we are convinced that one man died on behalf of all mankind and (which implies that all mankind was already dead).
15: And that he died on behalf of all in order that those who live should not live any longer for themselves but for the one who on their behalf died and was raised.
16: So from now on, we do not look at anyone from a worldly view point, even if we once regarded the Messiah from a worldly view point, we do so no longer.
17: Therefore, if anyone is united with the Messiah, he is a new creation. The old has passed, look what has come is fresh and new.
18: And it is all from God, who through the Messiah has reconciled us to himself and has given us the work of that reconciliation.
19: Which is that God in the Messiah was reconciling mankind to himself, not counting their sins against them and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
20: Therefore we are ambassadors of the Messiah, in effect, God is making his appeal through us. What we do is appeal on behalf of the Messiah “Be reconciled to God”
21: God made this sinless man to be a sin offering on our behalf, so that in union with him we might fully share in God’s righteousness.

2 Corinthian 6: 14
14: Do not yoke yourselves together in a team with unbelievers, for how can righteousness and lawlessness be partners? (people who fail to see the relevancy of Christ’s teaching regarding the Commandments of God). What fellowship does light have with darkness?
15: What harmony can there be between the Messiah and B’liya’al? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
16: What agreement can there be between the Temple of God and Idol’s? For we are the temple of the living God
As God said:
“ I will house myself in them, and I will walk among them. I will be their God and they will be my people”.
17: Therefore God (Adonai ) says
“Go out from their midst, separate yourselves, don’t even touch what is unclean, then I myself will receive you”.
18: In fact, “I will be your father and you will be my sons and daughters” Says Adona-Tzva’ot” Lord of Hosts. Living God.

2 Corinthians 7
7: Therefore, my dear friends, since we have these promises, let us purify ourselves from everything that can defile either the body or Spirit, and strive to be completely holy, out of reverence of God.

Understanding God’s incredible creations

The Sixth Extinction: Biodiversity and Its Survival

Even though you may not agree with this book you will find it it astonishing in its research and study of the bio diversity of our incredible planet. God made an incredible place for us to live and we as human beings have systematically been destroying it ever since we set foot on the place, instead of nurturing it and making a really great place to be we have slowly killed off a wide range of creatures which were put here for us to take care of.

It is a real eye opener, I know it may not be totally up to date, yet it has some merit as a book that could be helping you to understand the need for us to take on the role as a Caretakers not murderers of other creatures In Genesis, Human beings were given the commandment to take care and maintain the planet in good order. Yet we have not done that, many parts of the planet are destroyed by so much greed, also there are many plagues on the earth which God said He would bring about because we have failed to obey His Commandments and His Ordinances.

Surely, we as Human beings owe to our selves to start to make sure we put things back in the correct order. God first then ourselves and family and neighbours. People to day are so quick to judge their fellow man, yet the Word of God judges us much more. By God;’s standards we do not deserve to live – yet because He saw fit to send us His precious Son Yeshua to become our mediator between God and Man and our Saviour and reconcile us back to the Father. We should take steps in our own lives to see that we are living in accordance to His Guidelines. These you will find to be really reassuring and you can trust God’s Word to bring about Hope and Peace into this incredible place we call home.

We need to be restored and transformed into His likeness and get to understand life as He ordained it to be. Not fighting over every scrap of land, oil, money, life itself. We need to recognise that we are all equal under God – He created us all. He created the animals too for our benefit, for eating and pleasure. Not all animals are to be eaten – those that God said would be good for us. He gave us good reasons why he said the others where not to be eaten – they are the cleaners of the planet both in the sea and of the air and land.
